IHN

Census figures indicate that there are over 300 homeless persons in Johnson County. In an attempt to provide safety and security to some of these families, the church has become associated with the Interfaith Hospitality Network.

Our guests work or go to school, or participate in job training programs, financial planning courses, and other educational classes during the day and return to the church each evening for a good, hot meal, some time for relaxing, and a safe night of sleep. Over 50 volunteers support each week of this service. Grace Covenant is able to host guests for one week five times a year in partnership with the Johnson County Interfaith Hospitality Network.

Alan Purvis and Pat Collins serve as primary coordinators and Amy Thompson serves as overnight host coordinator for the GCPC IHN program!

Upcoming Hosting Dates

November 6-13, 2011

To host the families everyone’s help is needed from setting up rooms to making dinners, hosting overnight, taking down rooms, doing laundry, etc.  If you could spare an hour to help set up rooms on the first Sunday at noon, please let Jody McCamon know at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or 913-766-1329.  Help is also needed on the second Sunday at 8:00 a.m. to tear down the rooms and get them ready for youth activities.  If you would like to help in the comfort of your own home, we need laundry volunteers to pick up a bin of linens and towels on the second Sunday and return them clean later that week.  If you have any questions about these needs please call Jody McCamon. We also need two overnight hosts each night. To be an overnight host you must attend IHN training. If you would like to be a host or have any questions about hosting, please call the church office for contact names and numbers.  Thanks for your help in making this another successful week of IHN hosting!

7th ANNUAL IHN PARTY - DECEMBER 10, 2011

The Christmas holiday season is closer than you think. So once you start work on your Christmas shopping list, don’t forget to remember the Johnson County Interfaith Hospitality Network’s (IHN) homeless children and their families.

The 7th Annual IHN Party for current guests and graduates will be hosted on December 10 by St. Thomas the Apostle Episcopal Church in Overland Park.  Both St. Thomas and GCPC are host IHN churches. Pat Collins, who is one of GCPC’s two primary IHN coordinators, said the party will include games, lunch and gifts handed out by Santa and Mrs. Clause.

You can help Santa by donating a holiday food basket or $20 gift cards to Wal-Mart, Target and QuikTrip.  All donations are needed by December 4 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church at 12251 Antioch Road.  Contact IHN Party Coordinator Jean Adam for a food list or other program details.  Jean can be reached at either 913-402-4392 or 913-530-9097.
