As disciples of Christ we feel called to serve and care for those around us. By providing numerous opportunities for our youth to serve others we encourage them to begin a life of service. Living as Christ exemplified and sharing the gospel through our actions. Events and Opportunities Souper Bowl of Caring - The youth collect the cans and money on Super Bowl Sunday then take the donations to Harvesters and help sort the stock in Harvesters' warehouse. Caroling for Cans - In December our youth go caroling in our neighboring communities and ask for food donations that we can donate to a local pantry. Interfaith Hospitality Network - For one week each quarter, Grace Covenant partners with IHN to host families who are homeless. Youth help by repurposing the youth rooms for families and by returning the rooms to their normal condition when the weekends. Main Street Café - Our youth took on a project last year at the local music venue Main Street Café to tear down some existing rooms and recreate them as bathrooms. Our youth, with the help of others in the church, were able to bring Main Street Café into code compliance and thus expand their ministry to youth in the area. Youth Group, Sunday School and Confirmation - While Christian fellowship and education are the primary focuses of Youth Group, Sunday School, and Confirmation we believe that service plays a key role in both learning and living as Christians. To that extent we provide numerous opportunities during those regular meeting times to reach out to others. Sending care letters or packages, packing meals, cleaning up trash, and collecting donations are just a few of the opportunities we have pursued recently. Church and Presbytery Events - Grace Covenant engages the whole church body in service opportunities quarterly through a program we call “Grace in Action.” Youth are encouraged to participate with their families at these activities. We are also take part in service at various Presbytery wide youth events. Mission Trips - Service to others is the focus of our yearly Mission & Music during which our students serve the varied needs those in other communities around the country through both labor and music. 8th-12th grade students both musicians and non-musicians are included in this opportunity. Our 2010 trip will take us to the San Antonio area in mid July. We also serve those in other countries through our international mission trip. In 2010 our trip will take place on the first week of August. Youth in 11th and 12th grades are invited to participate with adults in this inspiring and laborious week. Destination is yet to be determined. More information about the M&M and International Mission Trip can be found by following the “Retreats and Trips” tab on the right side of this page. Caring For Our World - Our youth are involved in caring not only for other people but for our planet as well. We have programs to recycle newspapers and aluminum cans that are not only good for the environment it’s also good for our youth. We have paper and aluminum collection areas in the parking lot and the money we raise from your recyclables goes towards reducing the cost for our youth to participate in mission trips and other opportunities. |
